When love is not enough the Lois Wilson story

Lois met and fell in love with Bill Wilson, and when Bill returned from World War I, they married. Despite concerns over Bill's drinking, Lois believed he was destined for greatness. Bill's drinking spiraled out of control and soon his job, their home, even their dreams were gone. When Bill attained sobriety, he poured his time and energy into helping other drunks, which led to the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous. Frustrated that Lois was not acknowledged for her helping Bill, she drew on her own experience as the wife of a drunk and began Al-Anon.

  • ""They say behind every great man is a sober wife-- When Lois met the man of her dreams, Bill Wilson, she believed he would achieve greatness - she couldn't have been happier - they were wealthy, had a beautiful home, Bill was an instant success on Wall St. But Lois' world was also marred by Bill's increasing reliance on alcohol - and when Wall St crashed - everything was gone. For years they struggled & fought poverty, she lost count of the broken promises to stop drinking - finally she left him. Bill was a broken man who couldn't exist without Lois' love - even committing himself to experimental electric shock treatment as a possible cure. Lois was soon back beside the man she had always loved-- In 1951 they founded Alcoholics Anonymous - an organisation that has saved and changed the lives of millions around the world. This is their incredible, inspiring true story" -- Container."
