America's architectural roots : ethnic groups that built America

"Our Amrican viewpoint led us to organize America's Architectural Roots into three sections, based on periods of immigration; within these periods, groups are arranged alphabetically. The first section includes the Native Americans and Native Hawaiians, whose settlement preceded Afro-European colonization by intervals ranging from several centuries to thousands of years and whose architecture can therefore be considered indigenous. The second section includes groups whose most significant immigration preceded the American Revolution. Most were western Europeans or Africans, and most were the first colonists in their localities ... The final, post-Revolution, section is dominated by the great wave of immigrants who arrived in the United States between the mid-19th century and World War I"--Introduction (page 13).
