"The House of Windsor was created in 1917, in the midst of World War I, in order to avoid a perceived taint of a German surname which had been held by British royalty since the time of George I who was from Hanover. George V, grandson of Queen Victoria, was the first to use the name Windsor and all of his descendants have since 1917. Fearfull of losing the throne due to anti-monarchy sentiment which was rampant after the first World War, George V worked hard to create an image of a strong, loving, moral family which was good for England. Subsequent monarchs have also worked on keeping such an image. Unfortunately, the recent failed marriages, accusations of marital infidelity and scandals of Elizabeth II's children have caused serious problems for the House of Windsor. There have been suggestions that Elizabeth II may indeed be the last monarch to rule Britain."@en . . . . . . . . . . . . . "History" . "History"@en . . "The Windsors : a dynasty revealed"@en .
