Flesh and spirit private life in early modern Germany

This volume examines the family cycle of late-fifteenth-century to early-seventeenth-century Germany, showing what family life at the time was actually like. The author analyzes and weaves together primary sources to create a compelling account of family -- courtship, marriage, pregnancy, child rearing, and the establishment of new families. In doing so he re-creates the social and political world of this period in German and European history.
