Iglulualumiut prehistory : the lost Inuit of Franklin Bay

Very little archaeological work has been accomplished along the southern coast of Amundsen Gulf in the area between the historic ranges of the Mackenzie and Copper Inuit. This monograph compares material from the Iglulualuit site near the mouth of the Horton River, excavated in 1987, two sites investigated by Stefansson in 1911, and one investigated by John Hadley of the Canadian Arctic Expedition in 1917. All sites are in the Franklin Bay area in the western part of Amundsen Gulf and represent about 400 years of Inuit cultural development. The report describes the sites; equipment used for sea and land hunting, fishing, and transportation; men's tools; and women's tools and domestic items. The report also provides a chronology and cultural position and gives an overview of Iglulualumiut prehistory.
