"This textbook examines weed behaviour and management in relation to ecological concepts and agronomic practices. Introductory chapters examine weed taxonomy and evaluation and the fundamentals of mixed crop community ecology, populations biology, germination and dormancy. Subsequent sections discuss the allelopathic and competitive influences of weeds in cropping systems, the mode of action and physiology of herbicides, biological, cultural and chemical weed control techniques and their integration into crop production systems. Lists of common and scientific names of weeds referred to in the text and common and chemical names of herbicides are included and there is a glossary of terms. While this book is primarly intended for weed science students as an introduction to weed ecology in the crop context, it should also help research scientists or those with a general interest in plant science identify opportunities for cooperative effort."
