The Kent family originally of England. John Kent was born in England and came to Dedham, Massachusetts in 1645. His brother Joshua was in Dedham in 1643, but returned to England in 1844. When he came back to Dedham in 1645 he brought his two brothers, John and Joseph, with him. They settled in Bristol Co. In 1662 John married Hannah Grizold/Grizwold/Grissell (d. 1690). Hannah died in Charlestown, Mass. Includes descendants of Joshua, and Joseph Kent of Dedham, later of Bristol Co., Mass. in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Includes descendants of Thomas Kent of Gloucester, Mass., his possible English ancestry and descendants in Massachusetts, Connec- ticut, New York and elsewhere. Includes descendants of Richard Kent, Sr. (d. 1654) of Ipswich and Newbury, Mass. He arrived in Ipswich in 1634 from London. Includes descendants of Stephen Kent, born 1607 in England, who was a prominent man in Newberry from 1638 until 1646, when he moved to Haverhill. In 1665 he settled in Woodbridge, New Jersey.
