  • "Even though the US Air Force was losing many of its servicemen during World War 2, it still refused to train black men, especially to fly its planes. This film is about the 'Fighting 99th', the first ever group of black American combat fighter pilots. But these men are made to work harder than ever by their racist superiors in order to prove that they are capable of flying a plane like anyone else in the force."

  • ""Laurence Fishburne is commanding as the top gun of the first division of African-American fighter pilots in an inspiring 1995 made-for-cable saga. The film borrows its style from a half-century of military movies, as it chronicles a unit's progress from training camp in Alabama to Europe. What makes the film different is the racism encountered by the Army Air Corps' 332nd. In one particularly telling scene, a powerful senator vows, 'As God is my witness, these boys will not see combat'"--TV guide, August 26, 1995."@en

Their success could earn them respect, save lives and help win a terrible war. Their failure could destroy more hopes and dreams than their own"--Container."@en
