Weltwirtschaftskrise und nationalsozialistische Machtergreifung ruinieren den freien Schriftsteller, der nach dem großen Erfolg seiner "Kunst des 20. Jahrhunderts" (1931 in 3. Auflage) in Deutschland 'halb' in Vergessenheit geriet (Helmut Heißenbüttel). Seine "kometarische" Laufbahn (Franz Blei) wird erst heute, aus dem Blickwinkel der Postmoderne, überschaubar und verständlich."
