"Miscellany of over 150 notarial and legal documents pertaining to the family affairs of a large number of members of the Medici family, as well as their business interactions with other Florentine merchants, such as the Detti and the Risaliti. The documents can be divided into two broad categories: those documents that pertain to matters of civil, property and family law, and those that concern matters of commercial law and property law for business purposes, with the latter group being significantly larger. Documents that fall under the first category are mostly about dowries; inheritance; and various aspects of the management of the large estate of the Medici. Documents in the second group include sale and rental contracts for structures used for non-residential purposes, such as mills and shops; dealings related to the textile business; dealings related to the sale and purchase of produce and grains; contracts of small business incorporation; and accounts, debts, credits and related disputes. The last group of documents are copies, dated 1576, of 10 early 15th-century letters in Latin between officers of Massa e Cozzile and of Montecatini (in the manuscript as Monte Catini) di Valdinievole, 2 communi under Florentine jurisdiction, attempting to establish an agreement between the 2 communities (Folder 320). The letters have a limp cover made from a vellum bifolium from a liturgical manuscript."
