Louisiana State Representative David Duke made this commercial for his campaign for the 1992 Republican presidential primary election. Identifying himself as an anti-liberal conservative, he makes his case that western culture and Christian values and tradition are at the foundation of America. He idealizes past social conditions and portrays U.S. society as being eroded and threatened by forces such as a growing "parasitic and intractable welfare underclass." He is especially disturbed by illegitimacy, drug abuse, and the crime rate among welfare recipients; affirmative action and minority set-asides; school integration and busing. He equates civil rights programs with discrimination against whites. He criticizes the tax system, advocates a flat tax rate, and wants to eventually eliminate the income tax. He speaks out against free trade. He aggressively defends his Klan past by attacking other politicians' pasts. The commercial includes a statement of support from James Meredith.
