Sie befürchten, dass sich die Geister gegen sie wenden. Eines Tages kommt dann die Mutter zu Besuch. Wird Fanta nun ihrer Mutter nach Paris folgen oder in ihrer gewohnten Umgebung bleiben? Der sehr einfühlsam geschriebene Roman zeigt eindrücklich das Leben der Dorfgemeinschaft zwischen althergebrachten Traditionen und der Moderne, wie etwa Bildung für alle, nicht nur für Jungen, sondern auch für Mädchen.
