A modernized version of the operetta, presented as a play within a play. A fat fairy queen and her band nearly make peers pass a competitve examination to enter Great Britain's House of Lords, but everybody marries everyone else instead. Includes allusions to today's Canadian politics.
"In this story, a band of fairies becomes enmeshed with the House of Lords in an effort to unite the half-fairy, half-mortal son of Iolanthe with his true love."
"Comic opera about Iolanthe, a fairy who married a mortal, and for her transgression has lived at the bottom of a stream with the frogs for 25 years."

"Gilbert & Sullivan's light opera about a fairy who married a mortal, is banished to live with frogs, but produces a son who is half-fairy, half-mortal; she is pardoned and her son courts the Lord High Chancellor's pretty ward."
"Iolanthe used to be the life and soul of Fairyland but was banished 25 years ago for marrying a mortal. Now, pardoned by the Fairy Queen she returns as a beautiful teenager, but with a 24-year-old son, Strephon, who is half fairy, half mortal. He is in love with Phyllis, a ward of the rather susceptible Lord Chancellor. For a while, these complications wreck havoc with the proceedings of the House of Lords, giving Gilbert a chance to poke fun at that august institution."@en
"When Phyllis falls in love with the shepherd Strephon, she doesn't know that he is the product of a marriage between a mortal and a fairy. So when she sees him embracing the apparently young and undeniably attractive Iolanthe, Phyllis naturally refuses to believe his assurances that the lady in question is actually his mother, and gets her own back by becoming engaged to not one but two peers of the realm. Whereupon Strephon does what any self-respecting shepherd lad would do under the circumstances: he goes into Parliament--with hilarious consequences."
