George Brummel, when forced to watch his sweetheart Maid Margery give her hand in marriage to Lord Alvanley, decides to become the "Beau" of royal society in order to seek revenge. Beau Brummel becomes the trend-setter in terms of fashion and style, continually at the elbow of the Prince of Wales. His philandering and indiscretions eventually cause his fall from favor with royal society, and Brummel is forced to leave England for Paris. He slowly slides into poverty and insanity, and dies in solitude except for the company of his loyal servant, Mortimer.
