A "Farewell to Arms" is based on Ernest Hemingway's novel about the ill-fated romance between paramedic Lt. Henry (Cooper) and nurse Catherine Barkley (Hayes) in Italy during World War I. "Fighting Caravans" is based on a Zane Gray novel about a young frontiersman (Cooper), who facing a misdemeanor jail term, talks French-born Felice (Damita) into posing as his wife and accompanying him on a wagon train headed West.
