Für dieses Buch wurde er mit dem Grand prix national des lettres und dem Prix Flore für den besten Erstlingsroman ausgezeichnet. Houellebecq schrieb zahlreiche weitere Romane, lebte in Irland und Lanzarote und heute wieder in Paris."
