An Irish country doctor

Barry Laverty sets out for the emerald hills of Northern Ireland in the early '60s. His destination is the tiny town of Ballybucklebo and a new position assisting Dr. Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly in his country medical practice. Within moments of his arrival he realized he's in for the kind of training they don't teach in medical school.

  • "Recent medical school graduate, Barry Laverty is delighted by the opportunity to join a small rural practice in the beautiful hills of Ballybucklebo, Northern Ireland, until he meets his superior, Dr. Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly, a cantankerous older physician who has his own way of doing things."
  • "Barry Laverty, the proud owner of a spanking-new medical degree, can barely find the village of Ballybucklebo on a map. But he jumps at the chance to secure a position as an assistant in a small rural practice amongst emerald hills and glens. At least until he meets Dr Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly. The older physician, whose motto is never let the patients get the upper hand, has his own way of doing things. At first, Barry can't decide if the pugnacious O'Reilly is the biggest charlatan he has ever met, or possibly the best teacher he could ever hope for. Barry soon discovers that he still has a lot to learn about life and love, more than he could ever have imagined."
