"Hsiao-Kang est vendeur de montres dans les rues de Taipei. Quelques jours après le décès de son père, il rencontre une jeune femme, Shiang-Chyi, qui part le lendemain pour Paris. Hsiao-Kang, oppressé par le comportement de sa mère qui attend le retour de lℓesprit de son mari défunt, se réfugie dans le souvenir de cette jeune femme et tente de se rapprocher dℓelle en réglant toutes les montres et horloges de Taipei à lℓheure de Paris. "Hxiao Kang sells watches on the streets of Taipei for a living. Shortly after his father's death, he meets a young woman who leaves for Paris the next day. He sells her his own watch which has two dials so she can keep time with both Paris and Taipei. His brief encounter with the young woman makes him run around setting all the watches in Taipei to Paris time."
"Hsiao Kang is the only son in an uncommunicative family. When his father dies, he and his mother participate in Buddhist mourning rituals together, but otherwise cope with their profound grief separately and alone, crossing paths only out of routine obligation. Meanwhile, Hsiao Kang returns to his job as a watch vendor on the streets of Taipei. One afternoon, a young woman insists on buying a dual-time watch off his wrist for her trip to Paris, and he eventually relents, despite his superstitious belief that it will bring bad luck to them both. His feelings for the watch, tied to his anguish over his absent father and perhaps a hint of longing for its new owner, quietly compels him to reset every clock in the city to Paris time. Inevitably, despite the seemingly fated, intersecting lives of these three lonely and desperate people, the remedy for their emotional void seems indefinably out of reach. The film itself is poetic, generously compassionate, and achingly bittersweet."
"Hsiao-kang is a young man who sells watches from a briefcase in front of Taipei's train station. When his father suddenly dies at the beginning of the film, it sends Hsiao-kang and his mother, Lu, on two radically different trajectories. His grieving mother becomes obsessed with the return of her dead husband's spirit. Hsiao-kang starts to urinate into plastic bags and bottles rather than risk bumping into his father's ghost in the middle of the night. Around that same time, Hsiao-kang encounters an aggressive, though beautiful, girl named Shiang-chyi who is travelling in a couple of days to Paris. Entranced by the girl, he reluctantly sells her his own watch even though he believes that item has some connection to his father. The encounter leaves with Hsiao-kang with a fixation that Paris is in another time. Soon, he is changing each and every clock he can find back seven hours to Parisian time, forging an obscure connection to Shiang-chyi. Shiang-chyi herself finds Paris to be little different from Taipei in terms of alienation and isolation. Though she has run ins with several people, including an irate Frenchman in the middle of a lover's tiff, she only finds some comfort when she meets a woman from Hong Kong who generously shares her hotel room with her."
