Submarine

15-year-old Oliver Tate (Craig Roberts of JANE EYRE) has two objectives: To lose his virginity before his next birthday, and to smother the flame between his mother (Sally Hawkins of NEVER LET ME GO, MADE IN DAGENHAM) and an ex-lover (Paddy Considine of THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM, IN AMERICA) who has reappeared in her life. Worried that his mom is having an affair, Oliver monitors his parents' sex life by charting the dimmer switch in their bedroom. Meanwhile, he attempts to woo his classmate, Jordana, a self-professed pyromaniac who supervises his journal writing - especially the bits about her. Based on Joe Dunthorne's acclaimed novel, Submarine is a captivating coming-of-age story with an offbeat edge.

  • ""In his head, 15-year-old Welsh schoolboy Oliver Tate is a cool literary genius. In reality, he's socially inept and unpopular. Oliver has set himself two tasks for the summer: to lose his virginity (before it becomes legal) and save his parents' marriage. Suspecting that his mother is having an affair with old flame, Graham, a mullet-wearing, capoeira-teaching, new-age evangelist, Oliver monitors his parents' sex-life by charting their bedroom dimmer switch. To bolster his endeavours, Oliver forges passionate love letters on behalf of his unsuspecting father to his mother. Meanwhile, Oliver attempts to woo schoolmate, Jordana. When a calculated attempt at bullying earns him Jordana;s affections, she revels in their new-found relationship by dictating to him what he should be writing about her in his diary and introducing him to the thrills of pyromania"--Container."
