"Broadway producer Alexander H. Cohen discusses his career from the 1940s to the present day, examining his relationships with other showmen, with his wife and sometime co-producer Hildy Parks, and with such performers as Maurice Chevalier, Marlene Dietrich, John Gielgud, Richard Burton, and Elizabeth Taylor. He reminisces about his encounters with President John F. Kennedy, who attended several Cohen productions. He discusses his early years in radio, and his later work as the producer of the first Tony Awards ceremonies to be televised. Mr. Cohen also reflects on his experience with the 1976-7 revival of Hellzapoppin featuring Jerry Lewis, which he closed rather than bring to New York, and on how the business of producing plays for Broadway has changed over time."
