In this novel, Roberts tells the story of Ryder, one of the Montgomery brothers who, along with their mother, are restoring a historic hotel in BoonsBoro, Maryland. Of all the brothers, Ryder is the biggest mystery -- seemingly tough and surly. Hope Beaumont, the innkeeper, is keeping the Inn running smoothly, but her past has followed her all the way from the big city and is about to put in a not-so-welcome appearance.
