The story of Thomas Jefferson begins on a warm spring morning in 1748 as five-year-old Tom struggles to learn to write the alphabet. As he grows older, he learns to appreciate the value of education. A meeting with an Indian chief helps him to understand leadership and to gain respect for a religion very different from his own. He was to become a lawyer, a vice-president and eventually, the third president of the United States. He himself stated the following to be the three most important accomplishments of his career 1. The Declaration of Independence, 2. The law which gave each person the right to worship God in his own way, and 3. The founding of the University of Virginia.
