The Adversary

The story of a young man whose education was stopped by the death of his father when he was almost through medical school. He attempts to find a job and cope with personal and family problems. He is not a committed revolutionary or politically active, but finds that he has to deal with the political, social and economic cultures of Calcutta. This film is the first in Ray's Calcutta trilogy and is an example of Hindu neorealism.
