Bei ihm sollte nicht der in die Geschichte interpretierte Horror, sondern die Liebe stehen - die Liebe, die in Draculas Fall 400 Jahre überdauert und scheinbar unsterblich ist. Dies ist ihm vollauf gelungen. Unterstützung hatte er hier vor allem in dem geübten Auge von Kameramann Michael Ballhaus, aber auch durch Kostüm und Maske, die jeweils einen "OSCAR" erhielten - und in Gary Oldman, der der Figur des Grafen Dracula sein Leben einhauchte.
