The Kuwaiti oil fires

While Saddam Hussein's army was retreating from Kuwait in 1991, they set fire to all of the nation's oil wells. Besides stopping Kuwait's oil production, the fires caused environmental damage to the entire region. Thanks to the efforts of Red Adair and many other fearless fire fighters, the blazes were put out several months ahead of schedule.
