January 1997, The Office of Research began research to augment OCLC SiteSearch suite of software with standard programming languages such as Java. This work evolved into the development the Java Server Side Interpreter (JaSSI). JaSSI is now central to the architecture of OCLC SiteSearch 4.0. This article describes JaSSI and the successful migration of JaSSI to the new OCLC SiteSearch architecture.
