Train X photograph collection
- "This collection consists of photographs related to the development of the lightweight streamlined passenger rail car, known as Train X, for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway Company by Pullman-Standard Car Manufacturing Co. Photographs include a full-scale mockup on exhibit at the Chicago Railroad Fair in July 1948, construction of the mockup prior to the fair, as well as artist concept drawings, photos of a small scale wind tunnel test model, and several technical photos of a test apparatus. The collection also includes a small number of photographs of "The Xplorer," New York Central Railroad's lightweight train built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton Corp. ca. 1955, in addition to images of United Aircraft's Turbo Train and several other lightweight passenger trains of the mid-twentieth century, as well as approximately 200 catalog pages from the Waggonfabrik Uerdingen company, German manufacturers of rail cars."
