Volume 2 describes landmarks (rivers, mountains, valleys, etc.), vegetation, animal life, minerals, villages, forts, the Whitman Massacre, and the lifestyles and attitudes of Pawnee and Sioux Indians toward white settlers and travelers (p. 3-229). Schutt traveled by covered wagon pulled by horses and oxen with James H. Foster and John C. Peebles, a school teacher, both from Elkhart (Ind.). The remainder of Volume 2 includes geometry exercises, a Colorado Journal, and brief entries about hunting, prospecting, the weather, and pioneer life, 1882-1885 (72 pages). Volume 2 has loose pages and a disconnected cover."
