This volume contains sketches and photographs of Army Nurses from the Union Army during the American Civil War, many of whom served on the front lines. Most notable among them are Clara Barton, who went on to found the American Red Cross and Dorothea Dix, who was appointed superintendent of female nurses by the Secretary of War.
