Advances in modeling and control of ventilation

The proceedings of a September 1997 conference in Huntsville, Ontario, concerned with breathing rather than air conditioning. The 37 papers include discussions of the effect of prior oxygen breathing on hyperoxic hypercapnic ventilatory responses. The effect of eight hours of Isocapnic/Poikilocapnic hypoxia on the ventilatory response to carbon dioxide, the modulation of ventilatory sensitivity to hypoxia by Dopamine and Domperidone. Before and after prolonged exposure to hypoxia in humans, techniques for assessing the shape of respiratory flow profiles from data containing marked breath-by-breath respiratory variability. Temporal correlations in phrenic neural activity, selective depression of the peripheral chemoflex loop by Sevoflurane in lightly anesthetized cats. The influence of hypercapnic hyperpnea on the interaction between breathing and finger-tracking movements in humans, and the ventilatory response to passive head-up tilt.
