Late Victorian England. When Bella marries Lloyd Massie she believes she is the happiest woman in the East End of London. Her wedding is a joyful occasion but a young, dedicated detective knows that she is in grave danger. Lloyd Massie, the bridegroom, has already killed once but the police cannot prove it. To complicate matters, Jack the Ripper begins to terrorise the area and all police resources are turned towards his capture. Frustrated, the detective does his best to protect Bella and her sister Lottie but Massie always seems to be one jump ahead of them and the sisters' lives are at risk.
