From note included with photograph - This early Roseville area hotel was erected for W.J. Branstetter in the 1870's and was located near the corner of Atlantic and Lincoln Streets. Over the years it changed hands and names several times. In 1874 - known as the Scott Hotel, it was owned by Wiliam Scott; 1892 - known as the Golden Eagle; 1900 - known as The Roseville Hotel, owned by J.F. Hicken who then sold it to A.E. Zonneywille. In 1906, the building was moved to Vernon Street where it served as the Southern Pacific railroadmen's hotel and club. Finally, in 1912 it was used to hold the first classes of the newly organized Roseville High School. It was destroyed in 1929.
