Tartuffe, or, The imposter

Tartuffe, a pious but odious hypocrite, insinuates himself into the household of Orgon, a credulous and wealthy Parisian. Many attempts by Orgon's wife, Elmire, and other family members to show the truth about Tartuffe are frustrated, while Orgon nearly loses his wealth, his daughter Mariane (who loves Valère) and his honor to the perfidy of Tartuffe.
