August pace [with panel discussion excerpts]
This disc contains a performance of August pace and excerpts from two panel discussions that took place during the symposium Celebrating Merce Cunningham at the University of California, Berkeley. The first panel, titled A kind of anarchy, features composer/musicians who collaborated with Cunningham discussing their own music and their work with the Cunningham company. The panelists discuss the influence of electronic technology on their music; their views on various contemporary composers; and the process of their collaborations with Merce Cunningham. In the second panel, John Cage speaks about the relationship between his graphic art work and his music; Cunningham speaks about his dancers' timing and the introduction of replacement dancers in his company.
