First edition of this history of Arabia from ancient to modern times by the biographer and historian Andrew Crichton (1790-1855). A second edition appeared in 1834. The work contains extensive descriptions on its geography and natural history, an account of its inhabitants, antiquities, political condition, and early commerce, the life and religion of Mohammed, the origin and suppression of the Wahabees, the Caliphs of Baghdad, Hejaz, the Mohammedan pilgrimage and many more. The illustrations include depictions of the entrance of Petra, the medina and mosque of the Prophet, an Arab of rank in the costume of Yemen, Mecca during the pilgrimage, a young female of the Coffe Mountains and Abdallah ibn Saoud, Chief of the Wahabees--bookseller's note.
